Guitar
Songs ● Tabs ● Chords ● Scales
Mountain City Music Company will base its guitar curriculum on four pillars.
First and most important, students will learn the music of their choice. Mountain City Music Company believes that students develop a love of music through playing music that is interesting to them. Therefore, as with all instruments, the first and most fundamental question our instructors will ask is, “what would you like to learn?”
Second, students will learn how to read tablature. It is our philosophy that guitarists should learn music through the tablature format. We have found that tablature is the most accessible format to learn written music. More so, we have found through experience that most guitarists in the music industry prefer tablature, enabling our students to become contenders in the music industry.
Third, students will learn how to read chord charts, build chords, and build chord progressions. Students will begin by learning all of the open-position major and minor chords. From there, students will learn barre chords and how to build them. Then, students will learn modifications to chords (7th, 9th, etc.). Lastly, students will learn the diatonic chord progressions so that they may write and build chord progressions for themselves.
Fourth, students will learn the pentatonic, major, and minor scales. Through learning and studying their scales, students will learn how to become virtuosic as a lead guitarist and deepen their songwriting capabilities.
As with all instruments, the students may tailor the content of their lessons to their interests and skill level.
