Piano

Songs ● Books ● Chords ● Scales

Mountain City Music Company will base its piano curriculum on three pillars.

Though this is a less common approach with piano, students will first be offered to learn the music of their choice. Mountain City Music Company believes that students develop a love of music through playing music that is interesting to them. Therefore, as with all instruments, the first and most fundamental question our instructors will ask is, “what would you like to learn?”

Second, students will engage in a series of pre-written curriculum books. We have found that curriculum books are the most logical way to sequence instruction for the piano. However, not all curriculum is created equally. Therefore, our instructors will use their best discretion to determine the appropriate curriculum for their students. Curriculum books include but are not limited to Alfred’s (adult & children), Piano Adventures, Piano for the Young Beginner, Hanon, & Hal Leonard. In addition, repertoire books will be provided based on the student’s interest and skill level.

Third, students will learn the major scale, the minor scales, chord inversions, and accompaniment techniques. These techniques will make them more versatile in a modern pop music setting.

As with all instruments, the students may tailor the content of their lessons to their interests and skill level.
